HomeSafetyTornados

Tornados are incredibly deadly, and if you see one, seek shelter.

Tornados can form over land or water. The image here from the National Hurricane Center is an example of a water spout, a tornado that forms on water. Both types are classified according to the Fujita Damage Scale, which ranges from F0 (weak) to F5 (severe).

Residents are notified of tornados through television, radio stations and weather radios. A tornado watch means conditions are ideal for tornados to form, while a warning means a tornado was spotted and residents should seek shelter.
