Dean Anderson, Battalion Chief of B-Shift

Battalion Chief Dean AndersonBattalion Chief Dean Anderson joined the fire district in 1982 as a volunteer and was hired in 1986.

He holds certifications as an emergency medical technician, fire officer, instructor and hazardous materials technician. He is a member of the fire district hazardous materials team and the county disaster response team.

Chief Anderson helped create the fire district's fire prevention program and has been involved with it for more than 15 years.

Abe Quintanilla, Lt. Inspector

Lieutenant Inspector Abe QuintanillaLt. Inspector Quintanilla retired from East Naples Fire District as an acting captain after 22 years and joined Golden Gate's Fire Prevention Bureau.

He joined the fire service in 1981 and has worked in numerous capacities. He assisted Dade County as a taskforce leader when Hurricane Andrew hit Florida.

Lt. Inspector Quintanilla is a certified Inspector, Investigator, Instructor, Fire Officer, CPR Instructor, Hazardous Materials Technician and Emergency Medical Technician.

He currently sits on the local Fire Sprinkler Systems Committee and the Golden Gate Community Taskforce.

David MacGregor Jr., Administrative Captain

Captain David MacGregorCapt. MacGregor entered the fire service in 1974 as a volunteer for six years before moving to Florida in 1980 to work for Provincetown-Boston Airline.

He joined the Golden Gate Fire District in 1986 and was hired later that year as a driver engineer.

Capt. MacGregor was promoted to lieutenant in 1996 and then to administrative captain in 2006.

As an administrative captain, he oversees the maintenance of fire district apparatus and staff vehicles, is responsible for maintenance of air packs, conducts radio repairs and inventories all fire district equipment.

Bill Silvester, Fire Marshal

Fire Marshal Bill SilvesterFire Marshal Bill Silvester has worked at Golden Gate since 1999 and started his firefighting career in 1977 with the City of Maitland as a paid volunteer. In 2007, he reached his 30th year in the Fire Service. 

For the past 15 years, he has been in the fire prevention sections of four different Bureaus.

The fire district's Fire Prevention Bureau has two inspectors and one lieutenant inspector under Fire Marshal Silvester.  The Bureau conducts inspections for new and existing buildings, and performs origin and cause investigations at fires.

Matthew Zaleznik, Battalion Chief, C-Shift

Battalion Chief Matthew ZaleznikBattalion Chief Matthew Zaleznik joined the fire district in 1993. He was one of the first officers to become a shift battalion chief.

Chief Zaleznik is involved in numerous activities. He serves as the district's Community Emergency Response Team coordinator and teaches CPR and First Aid classes. He is a member of the honor guard and plays bagpipes. Chief Zaleznik is also on the district's water rescue team, is a hazmat technician and serves on the urban search and rescue team.

Andy Krajewski, Battalion Chief of A-Shift

Battalion Chief Andy KrajewskiBattalion Chief Andy Krajewski has served the fire district since 1998. He is the chief of A-Shift and worked his way through the ranks to become one of the first three officers to become a shift battalion chief.

Chief Krajewski is a certified fire officer and instructor. He is part of the district's urban search and rescue team. He also has an associate's degree in accounting.

William Moyer, Battalion Chief of Training

Battalion Chief of Training William MoyerBattalion Chief Bill Moyer joined the fire district in 2004 as the first chief of training. He is responsible for ensuring Golden Gate firefighters keep their skills sharp.

Chief Moyer started his career as a volunteer in 1990 and became a career firefigher in 1992. He has served as a firefighter, fire inspector, and training officer. He holds certifications as an inspector, paramedic, safety officer, instructor, live fire training officer, officer, hazmat technician, water diver, rope technician, confined space technician and trench technician. He also holds degrees in public service management, fire science and EMS technology.

Chief Moyer created the fire district's first urban search and rescue team, which is a state response team. He also helped create the district's water rescue team.

Scott Birge, Captain of Training

Captain Scott BirgeCaptain Scott Birge joined the fire district in 1998. He previously worked for the Florida Division of Forestry in Collier County for seven years, where he was based at the Copeland Tower Site.

Captain Birge was promoted one year after joining Golden Gate and advanced to the position of administrative captain. He was the first to take the position when it was created. He became the district's training captain in 2006. Captain Birge works with Chief Moyer to ensure fire district personnel keep up with constantly changing skills necessary to do their jobs well.

Captain Birge has numerous certifications. His professional interests include urban search and rescue and technical rescue operations, wildfire operations, counter-terrorism, drug lab and bomb awareness and education.

Dave Anderson, Assistant Chief

Assistant Chief Dave AndersonAssistant Chief Dave Anderson joined the fire district in 1984 and volunteered before he was hired in 1988.

He has worked as a firefighter, driver engineer, lieutenant and now serves as second-in-command of the fire district.

Throughout his career, Chief Anderson has served as an instructor, public education officer, training officer, C.E.R.T. coordinator, emergency medical technician, paramedic, division supervisor, strike team leader and taskforce leader.

The assistant chief is primarily responsible for facilities, administration, fire prevention, fleet maintenance and logistics. He also serves on many local committees.

Robert D. Metzger, Fire Chief

Fire Chief Robert MetzgerFire Chief Robert D. Metzger joined the Golden Gate Fire District in 2008. He has more than 30 years of experience in the fire service. He served as Deputy Chief of the Department of Fire and Rescue Operations in Toledo, Ohio, where he worked 29 years. He also served as an assistant fire chief at North Naples Fire District. 

Chief Metzger holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Safety and Engineering and graduated from the National Fire Academy's Executive Fire Officer Program. He is currently pursuing a Master of Public Administration degree from Florida Gulf Coast University.

J. Nolan Sapp, Deputy Chief

Deputy Chief Nolan SappDeputy Chief Nolan Sapp began his career in Taylor County, Kentucky in 1978 and worked as a firefighter and police officer. He left in 1991 and moved to Naples where he worked at North Naples Fire District, rising through the ranks to Acting Captain.

He joined the Golden Gate Fire District in 2002 as the district's first Deputy Chief of Operations.

Deputy Chief Sapp is actively involved with county firefighter pre-employment testing, radio communications, fire operations and the Collier County Fire Chiefs' Association.

The deputy chief is primarily responsible for fire operations, special operations and the training division.
